Muzeum Łazienki Królewskie

the palace and garden complex in Warsaw founded in the 18th century by Stanisław August Poniatowski

The origins of the establishment date back to the 17th century, when a garden pavilion with a bathhouse was built here on the order of Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski. In 1764, the last king of the Republic, Stanisław August, became its owner. The monarch invited eminent artists such as Dominik Merlini, Jan Chrystian Kamsetzer, André Le Brun and Marcello Bacciarelli to work on the expansion of the estate.
As a result of the reconstruction, the Lubomirski Bath was transformed into the Palace on the Isle, one of the most valuable Polish monuments in the classicist style, with the Royal Collection of Paintings. Today, 140 works are exhibited here; among them, "Portrait of Sir Charles Hanbury Williams" by Anton R. Mengs, "Satyr playing the flute" by Jacob Jordaens or "Portrait of Princess Giuliana Pubblicola Santacroce" by Angelica Kauffmann
